Research - overcome procrastination

Find solutions for procrastination apps through research

(1) Cognitive guidance

1. Do the right thing: According to the time management "4 quadrants of time management", classify what needs to be done. In other words, they are arranged and combined according to the two dimensions of importance and emergency and divided into four categories: "urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, and neither urgent nor important".

(‘This decision matrix, also known as the 4 Quadrants of Time Management matrix, is the brainchild of Dwight Eisenhower, the decorated army general and President of the United States.’)

Stephen R. Covey popularized the Eisenhower’s Time Management Matrix in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, stating that we live the fourth generation of time management, more effective, in which managing time itself is no longer the aim, but managing where to focus at any particular time.)

(The Eisenhower Matrix: How to manage your tasks with EISENHOWER, 2012)

I also found some research for Time Management for Students Matrix, which shows the way to spend their time more wisely.( A sense of how you are spending time and ways that you can spend your time more productively. )

Good intentions + procrastination = maybe tomorrow
                                                 no !!

(Seo, Doo, 2009)Based on the use of the time matrix, ‘the study investigated the time management behavior and time satisfaction of college students. Data were collected from 400 college students in Seoul by a self-administered questionnaire. ’Finally, this study advocates the use of time-matrix to achieve efficient time management.

(2) Behavioral guidance

1. Maintain efficient operations and have good efficiency.

In fact, I think it can prompt users to spend the most efficient time on the most difficult things, maintain a good routine and exercise healthy habits so that users have a clear mind when doing homework.

2. Eliminate interference, immersive learning.

The physical objects that affect concentration are removed from the user's line of sight, and the user is prompted to complete the task early to meet his own enjoyment needs early, so as to avoid these motivations becoming too strong and interfering with the user's work.

3. Establish a state where users learn together with others and establish a mutual supervision mechanism.

The empathy for others’ victory is to allow passive procrastinators to get positive encouragement, and this kind of encouragement can come from peer groups, and models, etc.

When individuals join a positive group, we will feel that the success of others brings us to themselves. Incentives to come. So I plan to add the study room part in the application, encourage everyone to learn online together

(3) Emotional guidance

Negative procrastination will cause more non-adaptive mental states.
Those with high negative and low positive procrastination will feel more negative emotions, especially stress, tension, anxiety, self-blame, etc., before facing the time cut-off point in the later stages of the procrastination process.

Therefore, many positive feedback designs can be carried out on the product, such as subdividing the task into many small goals to be easier to complete, thereby obtaining a sense of accomplishment. And a certain reward and punishment mechanism can be established so that users have a certain sense of urgency when performing tasks.

Today’s survey concluded that procrastinated application design functions can start from several aspects, such as a list of things, planning of things, immersive learning, supervision mechanism, and resolution of bad emotions.
